Frequently Asked Questions

Are these Kalso Earth® Shoes identical to those called "Earth Shoes" from the 1970's?

Yes and No. The concept is the same, and every Kalso Earth® Shoe today still features the "negative heel" design that helped popularize the shoes in the 1970's. A lot has happened since then, particularly as it relates to styling. Kalso Earth® Shoes are still recognized as the "original wellness shoe", but the new styles are more current, and stretch into a broader range of wearing classifications from casual, to athleisure, to walking.

Why the new logo? Who is Kalso?

Anne Kalso was the Danish yoga instructor who, in the late 1950's, began to develop the original Kalso "negative heel" shoe design. A deep believer that wellness should be part of everyone's daily lives, she worked with a shoe maker to design a shoe that could replicate the popular "Mountain pose" from yoga circles. The name change to Kalso Earth® Shoes honors Anne KalsØ. Every "negative heel" design shoe that we now make falls under the KalsØ Earth® Shoe label.

What makes Kalso Earth® Shoes different?

Every Kalso Earth® Shoe features a "negative heel". It's a sole design that helps sets the heels slightly lower than the toes, just like the popular yoga position known as "Mountain pose". The "negative heel" design also mimics the position of the foot while walking barefoot in the sand – the heels creating a deeper impression in the sand than the toes. Wearing shoes with a "negative heel" design can help naturally re-position weight in the body over the frame, and create a more natural walking motion that can help reduce joint stress and improve posture.

How does sizing run in the new Earthies® line?

While Earthies® shoes run true to size, there are many elements to consider that can affect shoe size and selection. Are your feet narrow? Are they on the wider side? How about your arches – are they high or low? How about your instep? Because everyone's feet are different, only you'll be able to make the best determination for what feels most comfortable. The best way to learn your size is by trying on an Earthies® style at a nearby retailer. Here's a link to our store locator that can help: www.earthiesusa.com

Do all Kalso Earth® Shoes feature the "negative heel" sole design?

Yes. The "negative heel" sole design can be found in all Kalso Earth® Shoes.

Is there an adjustment period with Kalso Earth® Shoes and/or the "negative heel" sole design?

Since everyone's body is different, the experience of wearing and walking in Kalso Earth® Shoes differs. Some people find that they can wear KalsØ Earth® Shoes right out of the box. Others find that wearing the shoes for short periods of time initially can help the body make a few natural adjustments tied into a new way of standing and walking.
