Frequently Asked Questions

Are these Kalso Earth® Shoes identical to those called "Earth Shoes" from the 1970's?

Yes and No. The concept is the same, and every Kalso Earth® Shoe today still features the "negative heel" design that helped popularize the shoes in the 1970's. A lot has happened since then, particularly as it relates to styling. Kalso Earth® Shoes are still recognized as the "original wellness shoe", but the new styles are more current, and stretch into a broader range of wearing classifications from casual, to athleisure, to walking.

What makes Kalso Earth® Shoes different?

Every Kalso Earth® Shoe features a "negative heel". It's a sole design that helps sets the heels slightly lower than the toes, just like the popular yoga position known as "Mountain pose". The "negative heel" design also mimics the position of the foot while walking barefoot in the sand – the heels creating a deeper impression in the sand than the toes. Wearing shoes with a "negative heel" design can help naturally re-position weight in the body over the frame, and create a more natural walking motion that can help reduce joint stress and improve posture. How does sizing run in the new Earthies® line?

While Kalso Earth® shoes run true to size, there are many elements to consider that can affect shoe size and selection. Are your feet narrow? Are they on the wider side? How about your arches – are they high or low? How about your instep? Because everyone's feet are different, only you'll be able to make the best determination for what feels most comfortable. The best way to learn your size is by trying on a Kalso Earth® style at a nearby retailer: Find a store near you.

Do all Kalso Earth® Shoes feature the "negative heel" sole design?

Yes. The "negative heel" sole design can be found in all Kalso Earth® Shoes.

Is there an adjustment period with Kalso Earth® Shoes and/or the "negative heel" sole design?

Since everyone's body is different, the experience of wearing and walking in Kalso Earth® Shoes differs. Some people find that they can wear Kalso Earth® Shoes right out of the box. Others find that wearing the shoes for short periods of time initially can help the body make a few natural adjustments tied into a new way of standing and walking.

How can I request an Earthies® catalog?

As part of being a company with a conscience, and in an effort to minimize our environmental footprint, we actually develop our catalog seasonally for online presentation. Instead, our current collection is represented right here on our EarthBrands website.

Can orthotics be worn with Kalso Earth® Shoes?

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. This all depends on the design of your orthotic, and the specific Kalso Earth® Shoe style you choose to wear. Whenever there are medical questions related to our shoes, we always recommend you first consult a certified health care professional.

I have a pre-existing medical condition. Will Kalso Earth® Shoes help cure me?

Recognizing that everyone's body is different, we would never make any claims that our shoes are "cure-alls" for those who may have foot problems or pre-existing medical conditions. That said, we do hear from consumers – many of whom post their experiences on our Facebook page - who have enjoyed very positive experiences while wearing our shoes. If you do in fact have a pre-existing medical condition, we strongly suggest consulting a certified health professional prior to making your shoe choice.

We stand proudly behind our products and want all of our consumers to be happy with their purchases. Prior to making your Earth® purchase, we might suggest inquiring about the retail dealer's specific return policy. Most retail dealers will accommodate returns outside of their standard policy for shoes that reflect any type of defect at the factory/ manufacturing level.
